Certified 'Level 2 Coach' under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) - Australia.

Certified 'Level 1 Coach' under the National Coaching Accreditation Program (NCAP) - Singapore.

Qualified karate judge with Singapore Karate-do Federation since 2005 and involved in a number of national tournaments as a judge in Singapore.

Competed in both Singapore national and international tournaments (eg. World Cup 2004 held in the Philippines organised by Kobe-Osaka International).

First started learning karate in 1978 under the guidance of Shihan Richard Ng (presently holding 7th Dan Black Belt) and in 2002, appointed as Assistant Instructor to Shihan Richard in training students from 5 training centres affiliated to Shinwa-Kai Karate Club (Singapore) for 4 to 5 times a week.

Sawal also took up the Malay Martial Art of Silat in 1990 as a member of Silat Seni Gayong Singapura ( Singapore) and attained Red Belt(Intermediate Level) in December 2007.

Competed in silat tournaments and obtained Silver Medal for artistic display with weapons in June 2007.
